Your Mindset Shapes Your Reality

LISTEN TO THE PODCAST

Hi everyone, and welcome to The Limitless Blog. My name is Radhika and I'm the founder of Jiva More Life. Our mission is to inspire you to believe that you are limitless.

Your mind really shapes your reality. Whether you feel like you have a positive life or a negative life, it's completely up to you. And that's what we're going to talk about today.

How do you prevent negativity from impacting your mind?

I think the biggest thing if you start to feel negative is you have to recognize it, because if you recognize it early on, you can easily shift what you're focusing on so that you don’t continue in the negative cycle. If you wait too long however, then you're so entrenched in the negativity it's a hard to pull yourself back out. It's like digging yourself into a hole. If you notice that you're in a little bit of a hole, you can get out of it. But if you're the one digging yourself deeper and deeper until you can barely see the sunlight it's going to be a lot harder to get back out. I really think the best thing to do is recognize it early on, and then focus on something else. Whether that's something that went well today, for example, it's a beautiful day outside or something great like your friends. You want to focus on really anything that can shift your mind a little bit to get you out of that negativity.

How can you cultivate joy in the little things?

I always think of what the impact of those little things have on me. If I eat a really good meal, even if you do that everyday, still just thinking “wow, the taste in my mouth is so good” and just appreciating it in that moment and how much it impacted my life and gave me joy. Another example is if you look outside and it’s sunny. Think about how “wow, I remember there was a time when it wasn't sunny. Maybe that was yesterday, but I love how sunny it is right now and it's impacting my life and that makes me feel good”. Really focusing on the things that make you feel good will help you feel joy, even if it’s a small thing because you're noticing what's going on around you.

I love this. I’ve noticed that I won’t always realize at the time that I’m in a negative cycle. But sometimes I’ll be forced to do something else and that helps me get out of it. For example I might have to get ready and go to work or do a chore and since I end up getting distracted and focusing on that it really helps me get out of the negative cycle.
